Mystical Isle Gems, a small company I founded last year based on the Isle of Skye. The inspiration for my work began while staying on a friend’s farm here on the island.  I was introduced to wood preserved within their peatbogs. This wood was once part of the ancient Caledonian Forest that stood just after the ice age; the specific piece I held was estimated to be between 3,000 and 5,000 years old.

As a lover of history, I was captivated by the idea of holding a tangible piece of Scotland’s Bronze Age history. Touching the bark of that ancient Scots Pine allowed me to imagine the tree as it once stood—tall and majestic, weathering the elements thousands of years ago. It made me wonder about the people of that era who might have sat beneath its branches and shared a connection with the same tree I held in my hands.

This profound connection to the past is what drives Mystical Isle Gems, and I am proud to be able to give others the ability to have a small pieces of Scottish history.

Our mission behind Mystical Isle Gems, and our goal is to provide our customers with unique handcrafted jewellery rooted in Scottish history, magic, and wonder.

We want to give people the opportunity to experience the magic and mystique of the wood we have found. Imagine being able to wear a piece of jewellery made from a tree that last saw the sun thousands of years ago—a piece of wood that endured ancient climates and serves as a small record of a long-ago time that most have only read about. At Mystical Isle Gems, we can now give people a chance to actually touch, hold, and own a part of that ancient past. As you wear our handcrafted jewellery you can experience the warmth of the ancient wood and magic will envelope and suround you.

Furthermore, we are deeply committed to preserving what is left of the ancient trees of Scotland . A portion of the sale of each piece goes to a charity that helps research and rebuild the forests from the descendants of the ancient forest, helping to bring back the wildlife habitats from long ago.

Our unique product line, is truly one of a kind.

Our pieces are crafted from what we consider "buried treasure"—ancient wood that has been preserved under peat bogs for thousands of years. Once this bog wood is uncovered, it undergoes a meticulous process where it is placed on storage shelves to dry for up to a year. From there, we cut and slice sections to be laser engraved with Celtic knotwork designs and other meaningful patterns.

The engraved wood is then carefully inlaid with resin, followed by an extensive process of sanding and polishing until each individually crafted piece is smooth and reveals the natural beauty of the timber. Finally, the pieces are fitted with  hardware to transform them into finished earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and brooches.

While no two pieces are exactly alike, they all carry a mystical magic that can only be found in the Highlands of Scotland.
